Tool-A-Fire Explosion

I originally drew all of these up for Maddy's birthday in Feb 2021 because she is super into Chuck E Cheese and Rock-A-Fire Explosion as well as deeply into TOOL. So, as a joke I said wouldn't it be funny to draw a mashup. She laughed, and because I'm starved for approval and attention I immediately went and sketched these up:

Right Click>Open Image In New Tab for Higher Resolution

She thought they were great, and now I had the pressure to get these done before her birthday! Smart!
I got right to work, and got most of the basic sketches down, and got these done within a week somehow. You can really see how different a lot of them ended up from their original sketch, and Billy Bob didn't even have a sketch for some odd reason!

Fatz Geronimo Parabola

10,000 Days Dook LaRue

Uncle Klunk As Sneaky Parabola Guy

And of course I didn't finish all of those sketches I did
But there was one that I got really stuck on.
Mainly because I was having trouble drawing Maynard
Otherwise its FINISHED.

SCHISM featuring Billy Bob, Choo-choo, and Maynard's Right Hand

I hadn't had much reason to post these until now when I got the urge to show them off. Maddy made a post on FB a long time ago which got like 5 likes, and that doesn't feed my fragile Ego enough so now its a fucking blogpost.

Which artwork was your favourite? (mine was Lateralus Rolfe DeWolfe n Earl)
Do you like Rock-A-Fire Explosion?
Are you a Tool Fan?
Do you like Peanut Butter N Jelly or Bologna N Cheese Better?

My Short PenPal Journey

Back in the early 2000's I used to send letters and packages to Europe and Asia a lot, had music pen pals, and boy was that fun. Getting their albums in the mail and sending them my own. Not as intense as the Tape Trading days of the 80s and 90s by any stretch of the imagination, but it was my own little bubble of snail mail excitement. It soon faded into nothing, it became E-mails and soon MySpace messages only because people hated checking their e-mails, now its the same with Facebook and Instagram, they avoid E-mails like the plague and getting anyone to mail something is like asking for their left testicle.

Around 2013 I sent my last CD in the mail to someone and it flatlined until 2020, not because of the covid crap, I just really wanted to send letters again. I went through a stack of old letters from an old bandmate and got super inspired, wrote him, and he wrote back. SUCCESS. Now I wanted more, like Sinistar I HUNGER. So I got to work, contacted people via Fartbuuk and Instapiss, and suddenly home addresses appeared.

But of course, like back in the day, I couldn't just send a normal letter, I never knew wtf to say anyways, so I over compensated by scribbling skulls and offensive shit all over the paper to make it more fun. Anything extra I could do, I would do. Every inside joke appeared, and re-reading their replies every so often brought massive joy. It was a snapshot of an exciting and happy moment, a piece of art in my hands made by another person who hand wrote it. It felt real. It felt like a rebellion against this digital age....yet it was commonplace only 2 decades ago.

Here are some of the things I've made and sent to friends:

Sometimes a simple design is enough

A friend of mine is into Judge Dredd & Mortuary Drape

I sometimes like to Shape the mail too, for comedic effect
He is really into Kiss so he got Gene's Crotch

Fold it up and you get the letter.
I didn't obscure the playlist for those interested!

Another Shaped One, Warhammer Battle Standard Style
Lots of X-Acto knife work on this one, totally worth it!

Some packages came with stickers too
Lots of inside jokes here, if you were there, you get it

I also made my own Stationery because I was jealous
of all those people on youtube with expensive paper.

This was for my friend Scufflemoss with his logo.

Inspired by incredible mirror frames

I was definitely reading The Silmarillion when I made this

Feels Militant, Like Space Marine Mail?

Ooga Booga Scary Monstaaah

Definitely based off some ORC type Shield

This one was used/drawn by Maddy

Unfortunately I don't have photos of the older packages from the early 2000's, my artwork was nowhere near as good back then. But once again my penpal days have seemingly come to an end once again. Not many willing, and if they are willing they are so impaired when writing back it takes too long or never shows up. It really sucks, a dying art for sure, but now I trade and sell my little art zines (check like every other post on this blog to see them or my instagram below) which saves me time drawing tons of individual things for people.

Have you done stuff like this too?

Zine Swap With Mini Comix Co-Op

Have You Heard Of Mini Comix Co-Op?
It Is A Place For Zinesters Like Myself To Send In Their Comix And Artbooks And Get The Same Amount Of Zines In Return, But The Best Part Is The Zines Are From A Bunch Of Other Artists From All Over The Place! Its So Cool! Best Idea I've Come Across In A While.

And Thats Just What I Did. Sent Out 10 Copies Of My Debut Zine "KYOOTI PIES".
Got A Real Nice Package In Return With Titles I Was Actually Looking To Get!

I've Been Trying To Find Other Swappers Who Are More Artwork/Comix Oriented Instead Of The Massive Amount Of 'Perzines' (Personal Zines) Which Seem To Me More Like Glorified Journal Entries Than Anything, Or It Deals With Mental Illness Or Whatever Else People Write About These Days. SO If You Know Anyone Who Is Down To Swap, Does Cool Art With Cool Ideas, Or If You Know Something Similar To This Mini Comix Co-Op Thingamabob, LET ME KNOW!!!!!

BATTLE FOR KNONX
A Risograph Comic By The Dude Who Runs Small Press Express,
A Very Important YouTube Channel If You Want To
Find Out About Obscure And Cool Artists And Zines.
A very short piece, no dialogue or monologue, I know
he has an entire series of little zines like this for his Knonx
World and I think a bigger book as well.

CAB GETS INKED 2019
Seems to be a collection of little Inktober drawings, very
fun to flip through, has a great simple style. One of the few
people who draws animals without it seeming pretentious.

DEMON EATER
This is a preview of a chapter in this webcomic series so
I don't get much backstory here, it just goes right into a scene of
a dude getting chased down by some Demon Raptors. His only weapon
is a baseball bat it seems. Seems Modern, maybe post apoc setting.
The art style is very anime, messy look to each panel which
sets the gritty, anxious adrenaline rush atmosphere. You can't calm
down at all, and the ending was a twist, but maybe if I knew more
about the series it wouldn't be?

DON'T LET THE PIGEON FLY THE ROCKET
The Only Full Colour Zine I Own So Far!
Drawings are crude, jokes are a bit meh, just not my thing.
But if you ARE in the mood to watch a Pigeon fly a rocket...
Then this is for YOU my friend.

By Noah Baker
Who I Cant Seem To Find Anything On....
If You Know His Website Or Insta, Comment Or E-mail Me.

Faceless Nameless
A Very Bleak Comic, Well Worth The Read.
The Alienation Seeps Off The Pages, Relatable.
The Fakeness Of Life, Hopelessness.

ULTRAMAN FRANCE!
If You're Into Classic Japanese Kaiju Battling
Then You're Sure To Enjoy This Little Romp.

SADBOI SKULLBRO
First Time I've Ever Seen A Punisher Parody
But Its Short And Hilarious. Makes You
Wonder If He Will Ever Fill That Void.....

These Were Both Made By Paul Kortjohn

TALES FOR THE TOILET
Paul Gets A Bunch Of Artists And Puts
Out A Big Zine. It Is A Chunky Boy.
As Far As I Know There Are Only 4 Issues Out
So Far (August 2022) But There Was Also
Something Called TASTE OF THE TOILET
Which I Got From Another Trade, Which
Is In A Similar Vein.

This Was Compiled/Released By Paul Kortjohn
But Has Many Artists In Each Issue!

SLARZ or SLARS or SLATZ or SLARD ?????
Wow What A Piece Of Shit. Literally. You'll Understand
When You Read It.

SOAKED IN BLOOD
Try To Ignore The Glare In The Photo, It Just
Wouldn't Fuck Off. Besides Battle For Knonx And Ultraman France!
This Is The Only Other Zine Printed On Coloured Paper.
I like the first few pages more than the Max Murder comic at the end.
It has no dialogue, just violence, and interesting designs for characters
but the Max Murder part is just an info dump to get you up to speed.
I do not have the next issue so I don't know how the story unfolds.

The Jasons & Kred Yard Interviews

The last time I saw The Jasons I pissed blood from a UTI.
R.I.P. Voltage Lounge, Your WTF Sauce Will Be Dearly Missed

Now that I have your undivided attention, it has been years since I've went to any concerts. I just don't really enjoy being over stimulated by a room full of people I don't like or want to talk to when I'm trying to enjoy a band. It just isn't my thing. I want to be ON the stage instead, let everyone else suffer that shit. But a change of pace is fun, and it was also Steph's birthday show too, and The Jasons.

Steph Infection, Horror Punk Mama

Anywho I was meeting up with a new friend Kred Yard who interviews bands, doing his part to make a difference while having a fun time talking to cool people. I also got to meet his wife Kayla, and his bestest buddies Burt and Ron. I had also pressed PUNK HITS Volumes 1 & 2 Zines that I wanted to give out to everybody, but ended up only giving out maybe 25 out of 58 copies.

After eating a stomach hurting Stromboli we headed to Bar XIII and Kred showed up, I took him over to a Puke Pink coloured wall, we stood next to what I'm guessing was a big stream of Bum Piss and had a quick interview. We had joked about this for a week since the Renfields Show I missed out on, and he didn't believe me until the very second the camera started.

THE KRED YARD INTERVIEW

We watched The Huntingtons and Whiskey Bats do their soundchecks, discussed X-Cops & GWAR, watched Burt kick Kred's hat around the floor as he chased it, and soon enough Jason V shows up and says he was ready for his interview, so I ran to the car, got the index card out, and Maddy filmed once again. This time, unlike the Kred Yard interview, we had an audience of weirdos making it all that more hilarious.

THE JASON FUCKIN' V INTERVIEW

After the interview was done, Maddy, V, and I talked for like 2 hours I think about Black Metal which was like 3 machineguns blasting shit at eachother about something they love. Time stopped, we only existed in this bubble, twas incredible. Then we went inside for Dickie Devil And The Deviants, my first time seeing them live (Maddy puppeteers their mascot/manager Doggie Deviant on their tv show and was doing Photo Ops at the show!) which was great, the whole gang have a great stage presence and super danceable songs. Died And Went To High School was hands down my absolute favourite.

This Maniac Hairstylist remembered me from an older HPUSA Show: Ladies Night when Maddy and I were vending our artwork (Picture Below). I was talking to her and some dude who looked like an Ice Road Trucker, 20 minutes into the convo it is revealed he is the Dickie Devil bassist. So of course I threw zines at both of them in hopes to impress some Showbiz Types ya know.

Booth Barbarians Representing Vinland

The Jasons finally hit the stage, the place was packed tight, I was right in front of 3D who fucking conquers the stage, and considering the mammoth stage presence these mongo motherfuckers have, thats saying something. Their set went by way too quick. Broke my neck headbanging to the point of just shrugging my head enough to move my hair around. Elbowed this girl next to me in the tit like 100 times and this little Grandma was rocking out just as hard as everyone else, FIST BANGIN MANIA. She was the coolest. We of course, bothered and stalked them as they loaded up their van, I went around getting Dickie Peeps, Steph, Kred and his Krew, and The Jasons to sign a Dickie Devil setlist (of aforementioned ice road trucker). Hollywood signed a Boognish, we are brothers in Ween.

After attending a show on 4 hours of sleep after being awake for 19 hours already, I was surprisingly energized and excited, which is rare for me. I still haven't slept and its now 11am the next day.

I got all my new buddies, The Jasons, Steph, and Dickie Devil And The Deviants to sign a setlist too!
